These Terms of Service (the “Terms”) govern your use of pianomode.com and of every feature offered on it: the sheet music library, the Journal, the games, the Concert Hall, the guided lessons, the Studio, the sight-reading trainer and the AI coach (together, the “Service”). By creating an account, subscribing or simply using the Service, you accept these Terms. If you do not accept them, please do not use the Service.
1. Who you are buying from
The Service is operated and sold under the trade name PianoMode by:
- Legal name: Clément Courdier, sole trader (entrepreneur individuel) established in France
- Registered address: 19 rue Greuze, 75016 Paris, France
- Business registration: SIRET 847 822 103 00028
- Tax status: VAT is not applicable, Article 293 B of the French General Tax Code. Prices are shown and charged with no VAT added.
- Contact email: [email protected]
“We” “us” and “PianoMode” in these Terms mean that seller. “You” means the person using the Service. Hosting and content delivery are described on our Legal Notice page.
2. The Service, what is free and what is paid
PianoMode is an online piano learning platform. A large part of it is free and stays free, with no account required for most of it:
- the full sheet music library and its downloads;
- every article in the Journal;
- the piano games in their standard form;
- the 3D Concert Hall;
- the first lesson of every level of the guided path.
A paid membership (“Premium”) unlocks the depth of the platform rather than a separate product. It currently covers the complete guided path and the Specialized Courses beyond the free lessons, play without the heart limit in the games, the AI coach, saving and exporting your work in the Studio, and use of the sheet music scanner beyond the free quota.
Current membership options, billing intervals and prices are shown on the membership page and again on the checkout screen before you pay. The exact set of Premium features may change as the platform grows; we will not remove a feature that was the main reason you subscribed without telling you in advance (see section 12).
3. Your account
You need an account to save progress, to subscribe and to use member features. You agree to give accurate information, to keep your password confidential and to tell us promptly if you believe someone else is using your account. You are responsible for activity carried out through your account.
One account is personal to one learner. You may not share your login with people outside your household, resell access or use one membership to serve a class, a studio or an institution. If you need a group arrangement, write to us.
The Service is not directed to children under 13. If you are under the age of majority where you live, use PianoMode only with the involvement of a parent or guardian, who accepts these Terms on your behalf.
You can delete your account at any time from your account dashboard, under Settings. Deleting your account cancels any active subscription and erases your personal data as described in our Privacy & Cookie Policy.
4. Subscriptions, billing and automatic renewal
4.1 What you are agreeing to
Premium is sold as a subscription. Please read this section carefully, because it describes a recurring charge.
- Your subscription renews automatically until you cancel it. There is no end date and no separate step to renew.
- You are billed in advance, at the start of each period, for the interval you chose (monthly or yearly). The first charge is taken when you subscribe.
- The same amount is charged again at each renewal, on the same date of the following month or year, using the payment method saved on your account, unless you cancel before that date or unless we have given you advance notice of a price change (see section 12).
- The price, the billing interval, the renewal date and the cancellation terms are shown to you on the checkout screen before you pay, and your renewal date is shown at all times in your account dashboard, under Billing.
- You receive an email confirmation and receipt after your first payment and after every renewal, sent by our payment processor, Stripe, to the address on your account. It states what you paid for, the amount and the date. Keep it, or find the same information in your dashboard.
4.2 Payment processing
Payments are processed by Stripe. We never receive or store your full card number. By subscribing you authorize us, through Stripe, to charge your payment method for the recurring amount until you cancel. You confirm that you are entitled to use the payment method you provide.
Amounts are charged in US dollars. Your bank or card issuer may apply its own currency conversion or foreign transaction fee, which is outside our control.
4.3 Failed payments
If a renewal payment is declined, Stripe retries it over the following days. If it keeps failing, Premium access is paused until a payment succeeds. Your account, your progress and your saved work are not deleted because of a failed payment.
4.4 Free trials
We do not currently offer a paid-plan trial. If we introduce one, the length of the trial, the date the first charge would be taken and the way to cancel before that date will be stated on the checkout screen before you give a payment method, and repeated in your confirmation email.
5. How to cancel
You can cancel online, by yourself, in a few clicks. You never have to call us, write to us or explain yourself.
- Sign in and open your Account dashboard.
- Go to the Billing section.
- Click Cancel Subscription and confirm.
That is the whole process. It takes effect immediately as an instruction: no further payment will be taken.
Your access continues until the end of the period you have already paid for. Your dashboard then shows the date on which the subscription ends, and a Resume Subscription button in case you change your mind before that date. Canceling does not delete your account, your progress or your files, and it costs nothing: there is no cancellation fee and no notice period.
If the cancel button ever fails for you, email [email protected] from the address on your account and we will cancel it for you. A cancellation requested that way is treated as effective on the day you sent the email.
6. The 30-day money-back guarantee
If PianoMode is not for you, tell us within 30 days of your first Premium payment and we refund that payment in full. No form to fill in, no justification to give, and you do not lose anything you created.
- Who it applies to: any customer, on the first payment of their first Premium subscription. It can be used once per customer.
- How to ask: email [email protected] from the address on your account, within 30 days of that first payment, with the word “refund” anywhere in the message. Nothing else is required.
- How fast: we answer within 5 business days and issue the refund at the latest within 14 days of receiving your request.
- In what form: the full amount, in the original currency, refunded to the original payment method through Stripe. We do not substitute credit, vouchers or an extension of your membership. Depending on your bank, the money usually appears within 5 to 10 business days after we issue it.
- What happens to your account: the subscription is canceled and Premium access ends when the refund is issued. Your account, your progress and your saved work stay where they are.
Renewal payments are outside the guarantee, because you have had a full period to decide: cancel before a renewal date and you are not charged. If a renewal was taken because of a genuine mistake on our side, or because a cancellation did not go through, write to us and we will put it right.
This guarantee is a commercial promise we make on top of the law. It does not reduce any right you have under the consumer law of your own country (see section 13).
7. Acceptable use
When using PianoMode, you agree not to:
- copy, scrape, mirror, resell or redistribute our lessons, courses, articles, audio or code;
- share your account credentials outside your household, or circumvent membership checks, quotas or access rules;
- upload content you have no right to upload, including sheet music still under copyright, when using the scanner, the Studio or any other upload feature;
- upload malware, attempt to break, overload or probe the Service, or use automated tools to extract content at scale;
- post or send content that is unlawful, hateful, harassing or obscene, including in community features, display names and messages to us;
- misrepresent your identity, or use the Service to impersonate someone else.
Reasonable technical limits (rate limits, upload quotas, fair-use ceilings on the AI coach and on the scanner) apply to keep the Service usable and affordable for everyone. We may adjust them, and we will not use them to empty a membership of its substance.
8. Intellectual property and your content
Ours. The PianoMode name and logo, the lessons, courses, articles, arrangements, recordings, interfaces, illustrations, software and interactive tools are owned by the seller or used under license, and are protected by intellectual property law. Your membership gives you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use them for your own learning, for as long as your access lasts. It does not transfer ownership of anything.
Sheet music. Scores offered for download are in the public domain or used under the license stated on each score. That license, when there is one, governs what you may do with the file.
Yours. Anything you create, record, upload or scan stays yours. You give us only the limited technical permission needed to host it, process it and show it back to you, and to run the features you asked for. We do not publish your recordings, and we do not use them for advertising, without your explicit consent.
Copyright claims. If you believe something on PianoMode infringes your rights, write to [email protected] with enough detail to identify the work and the page. We remove infringing material promptly once a claim is substantiated.
9. Disclaimers
PianoMode is an educational service, provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. We work hard to keep it accurate and online, but we do not promise that it will be uninterrupted, error free, or compatible with every device, browser or MIDI instrument.
No guarantee of results. Learning an instrument depends on your practice, your instrument and your starting point. Nothing on PianoMode is a promise that you will reach a given level in a given time.
Physical safety. Piano practice can strain your hands, wrists, arms and back. Our posture and technique guidance is general information, not medical advice. Stop if something hurts and consult a qualified professional.
AI features. The AI coach and the sheet music scanner produce automated output that can be wrong. Treat their suggestions and their transcriptions as a helpful draft, not as an authority.
Third-party content. Embedded videos, external links and affiliate links point to services we do not control and whose terms apply on their side.
10. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, PianoMode is not liable for indirect or consequential losses, for loss of data, or for loss of profit or opportunity arising from your use of the Service. Where liability cannot be excluded, our total liability for any claim relating to the Service is limited to the amount you paid us over the twelve months preceding the event that gave rise to the claim.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited by law, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for a breach of your mandatory consumer rights.
11. Suspension and termination
You may stop using the Service at any time, cancel your subscription (section 5) and delete your account (section 3).
We may suspend or close an account that seriously or repeatedly breaches section 7, or where we are required to do so by law. Except where the breach makes it impossible, we will tell you why and give you a chance to put it right. If we close a paid account for a reason that is not your fault, we refund the unused part of the period you had paid for.
12. Changes to the Service and to these Terms
The platform evolves: features are added, improved and occasionally retired. We may update these Terms to reflect that, or to reflect a change in the law.
- Minor changes (clarifications, corrections, new contact details) take effect when the updated Terms are published, and the date at the top of this page changes.
- Material changes, including any change to the price of an existing subscription or to what a membership includes, are announced to subscribers by email at least 30 days in advance. A price change applies only from your next renewal after that notice, and you can cancel before it, at no cost.
Continuing to use the Service after a change takes effect means you accept the updated Terms. If you do not accept them, cancel and stop using the Service.
13. Governing law and disputes
13.1 Governing law
These Terms and any contract formed under them are governed by French law, since the seller is established in France.
If you are a consumer, this choice does not take away the protection given to you by the mandatory law of the country where you live. Residents of the European Union and of the United Kingdom keep the mandatory consumer rights of their country of residence, including their statutory rights regarding non-conforming or defective digital services, and may bring proceedings before the courts of that country. Consumers elsewhere keep whatever equivalent rights their own law gives them.
13.2 Talk to us first
Almost everything is solved by an email. Before starting any formal procedure, write to [email protected] describing the problem and what you would like us to do. We answer within 5 business days and try to settle it within 30 days.
13.3 Arbitration, for residents of the United States only
This subsection 13.3 applies only if you are a resident of the United States. It does not apply to anyone else, and nothing in it limits the rights described in subsection 13.1.
If we cannot settle a dispute informally within 30 days, you and PianoMode agree to resolve it by binding individual arbitration administered by the American Arbitration Association (AAA) under its Consumer Arbitration Rules, rather than in court. The arbitration takes place in the county where you live, or by telephone or video, or on documents alone, at your choice.
- Small claims stay available. Either of us may bring an individual claim in small claims court instead, if it qualifies.
- Individual basis. Claims are brought individually. There is no class, consolidated or representative arbitration.
- You can opt out. Send an email to [email protected] with the subject “Arbitration opt-out” within 30 days of first accepting these Terms, and this subsection will not apply to you. Opting out changes nothing else in your relationship with us.
- Nothing here waives any right you cannot waive by law, including any right to bring a claim before a public agency.
14. Privacy and contact
How we handle personal data and cookies is described in our Privacy & Cookie Policy. Publisher and hosting details are on our Legal Notice page.
For anything at all, including billing, cancellation, refunds and accessibility: [email protected], or the contact page. Postal mail reaches us at Clément Courdier, 19 rue Greuze, 75016 Paris, France.
If any provision of these Terms is found unenforceable, the rest stays in force. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of it.

Accessibility Statement
Our Commitment
PianoMode is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for people of all abilities. We continually improve the user experience for everyone and apply the relevant accessibility standards to make our platform inclusive and welcoming.
Conformance Status
We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA. These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible to people with a wide array of disabilities, including visual, auditory, physical, speech, cognitive, language, learning, and neurological disabilities.
Measures We Take
PianoMode takes the following measures to ensure accessibility:
- Keyboard Navigation: All interactive elements are accessible via keyboard, including our sheet music player, games, and navigation menus.
- Screen Reader Support: We use semantic HTML, ARIA labels, and descriptive alt text to support assistive technologies.
- Color Contrast: Our design maintains sufficient color contrast ratios to ensure text readability for users with visual impairments.
- Responsive Design: PianoMode is fully responsive, adapting seamlessly to different screen sizes, orientations, and zoom levels up to 200%.
- Reduced Motion Support: We respect the
prefers-reduced-motionsetting and minimize animations for users who require it. - Alternative Text: Images across the platform include meaningful alt text descriptions to convey content and context.
- Focus Indicators: Visible focus outlines are provided for all interactive elements to support keyboard and switch device users.
Known Limitations
While we strive for full accessibility, some limitations may exist in the following areas:
- Interactive Sheet Music Player: The real-time note highlighting player relies on visual cues that may not be fully accessible to screen readers. We provide downloadable PDF alternatives for all scores.
- Third-Party Content: Some embedded content (for example YouTube videos) is governed by third-party accessibility standards beyond our direct control.
- Piano Games: Certain interactive games (Ear Trainer, Piano Hero, Note Invaders) are inherently visual or auditory in nature, which may limit accessibility for some users.
Feedback & Contact
We welcome your feedback on the accessibility of PianoMode. If you encounter any accessibility barriers or have suggestions for improvement, please contact us:
Email: [email protected]
Contact Page: pianomode.com/contact-us
We aim to respond to accessibility feedback within 5 business days and will do our best to resolve any issues promptly.
