Sheet to Sound runs the full recognition pipeline locally: the deep-learning models are downloaded once, cached by your browser, and executed on your own hardware with GPU acceleration where available (a multi-threaded fallback covers everything else). Your file is never uploaded, there is no queue, and no account is needed to scan, play or download. The one exception is deliberate and yours to make: if you press Save to my account, that score’s notation is sent to your PianoMode account so you can find it again. Skip that button and the only copy of your music is on your device.

Everything you might wonder before feeding the scanner your favorite piece.

PDF documents and PNG, JPG or WebP images, one score at a time. Multi-page PDFs are fully supported: each page is read in turn and you can flip between the results.

The very first scan downloads the AI models (about 110 MB); your browser caches them, so later visits skip that step. After that, expect roughly ten seconds to a minute per page depending on your device. The small badge above the dropzone shows which engine is doing the work: WebGPU on recent browsers, multi-threaded WebAssembly everywhere else.

Your image or PDF is never uploaded: recognition happens entirely inside your browser, on your device, and you do not need an account to scan, listen or download. One optional action changes that, and only if you choose it: pressing "Save to my account" sends that score's notation to your account so you can open it again later. You can delete a saved score from your account at any time.

Give the scanner what a musician would want: good even light, the page flat and square in the frame, and the music filling most of the picture. Avoid glare, shadows and curved pages. A 300 DPI scan of a cleanly printed score is the gold standard; phone photos work well when they are sharp and straight.

The models are trained on printed notation, so handwriting is hit-and-miss: a very neat, engraving-like manuscript may partially work, but expect to correct the result in a notation editor. For reliable results, stick to printed or typeset scores.

MusicXML and MXL open in notation software such as MuseScore, Finale, Sibelius or Dorico, where you can edit and reprint the piece. MIDI drops straight into any DAW, and into PianoMode games like Piano Hero.
